1. Project Overview (Project Case)

This project is a containerized industrial wastewater reuse RO system designed for a toilet paper manufacturing plant located in Chile.

The system treats and recovers wastewater generated from two internal industrial sources:

  • Wastewater treatment plant effluent
  • Liquid industrial waste treatment system effluent

Both streams are generated within the same facility and are combined as feedwater for advanced treatment and reuse.

The goal of this project is to enable stable industrial water reuse and reduce freshwater consumption in production processes.


2. Water Quality Challenges (Chile Industrial Water)

Based on the feedwater analysis, the main challenges include:

2.1 High Chloride Concentration

Chloride levels exceed reuse requirements, which may cause:

  • Corrosion in pipeline systems
  • Increased RO membrane scaling risk
  • Reduced long-term system stability

2.2 Elevated Sulfate Levels

High sulfate concentration leads to:

  • Scaling formation on RO membranes
  • Reduced membrane efficiency
  • Higher chemical cleaning frequency

2.3 Microbial Contamination Risk

One of the incoming streams (sewage-related effluent) contains fecal coliforms, which creates:

  • High risk of biological fouling
  • Biofilm formation in pipelines and membranes
  • Potential regrowth of microorganisms in reuse water

👉 Therefore, pre-treatment disinfection before RO is essential.


2.4 Complex Dual-Source Wastewater

The system treats mixed wastewater from:

  • Biological wastewater treatment plant
  • Industrial liquid waste stream

This results in:

  • Fluctuating feedwater quality
  • High fouling risk
  • Need for stable and robust pretreatment design

3. Guanya Containerized RO Solution

  • Prevents scaling caused by high sulfate and chloride levels

  • Industrial-grade anti-fouling RO membranes
  • High rejection rate for salts and contaminants

  • Turbidity ≤ 0.1 NTU
  • Conductivity ≤ 50 µS/cm
  • Fecal coliforms: not detected

The treated water can be reused for industrial production processes, cleaning systems, and internal water circulation.

The system is fully integrated into a standard 40ft container including:

  • Pretreatment zone
  • RO membrane system zone
  • Chemical dosing system
  • PLC electrical control system
  • CIP cleaning system
